I was going through some old work - thinking about doing a side-by-side then-and-now drawing comparison where I take an old picture and draw it like I would today - and was struck by how much I still liked these comic pages.
Despite how embarrassingly “Slave Labour Graphics” they are - I was a big fan like most people were at the time and it bled through into my work pretty heavy-handedly - there’s an energy here I haven’t really pulled off much since. Especially in the panel layouts. There’s some good stuff in there.
Dead Bunny never really managed to go anywhere. I keep revisiting it every now and then, and write it with the wife, but I’ve never felt super confident in it’s style or writing. It’s usually way too wordy to be a strip, and the long-form comics never really went anywhere. This is the furthest one’s gotten.
Years ago I was even starting to design these guys back up to be made into a dungeon crawler. It was going to be pretty awesome - got the early design docs still written out. The controls, special moves, levels, etc.
I might do a bit of a series of putting up old art over this next month. Could be an interesting experiment!
